AMU Partners with Medisend College to offer Veterans Accelerated Associate-to-Bachelors Degree
Charles Town, W.Va., and Dallas, TX, August 10, 2017 — American Military University (AMU) and Medisend College of Biomedical Engineering Technology today announced a partnership to help veterans reenter the civilian workplace with the education and credentials to pursue careers in the rapidly-growing healthcare industry.
“Veterans can complete an accelerated Associate of Applied Science in Biomedical Engineering Technology in Medisend’s General Richard B. Myers Veterans Program and enhance their credentials once employed by then completing a bachelor’s degree in IT or technical management, fully-online at AMU,” said Nick Hallack, president and CEO of Medisend College.
“As the leading educator of servicemen and women and a top choice of veterans, AMU was our natural partner to create a flexible, fast-track degree path to provide robust STEM programs for veterans that best leverage their experience and provide additional paths for career development,” added Hallack.
AMU’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Technical Management builds upon prior education and work experience gained through Medisend’s AAS while the B.S. in Information Technology Management focuses on the problem-solving skills and techniques needed to provide computer-based solutions to practical problems.

The Medisend Biomedical Equipment Technology School is now Medisend College of Biomedical Engineering Technology granted the authority to teach and award an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Biomedical Engineering Technology.
Dallas, June 8, 2017–The Medisend Biomedical Equipment Technology School has become the Medisend College of Biomedical Engineering Technology and has been granted the authority to teach and award an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Biomedical Engineering Technology by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
This announcement comes following a period of evolution and growth for the school that, in 2007, began training biomedical technicians for developing country hospitals, the individuals responsible for repairing, maintaining and installing life-saving medical equipment.
The college offers its program to undergrads and international students and, since 2013, has focused on providing services to returning veterans through the General Richard B. Myers Veterans Program.
“Since we launched the veterans program, Medisend has been offering veterans a rapid pathway to jobs with some of America’s most respected healthcare organizations. Our new Associate Degree Program will create even greater opportunities for career advancement,” says General Richard B. Myers, USAF (ret.), former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
With the rapid growth in technology and constantly improving medical devices, future plans include consistent acquisition of the latest information and training equipment and increasing course offerings to include more facets of healthcare education.

MediSend International Receives $300,000 Matching Grant from Dahan Family Foundation
The Dahan Family Foundation has awarded a matching grant in support of MediSend’s educational and humanitarian work to support and strengthen healthcare in developing countries. The grant promises to match donations and grants up to $300,000 until the end of 2016.
In 2005, Elisabeth and Rene Dahan donated Medisend’s current facility, the Elisabeth Dahan Humanitarian Center, home to the organization’s Biomedical Engineering Technology School and its International Distribution Center, a division of Medisend that distributes medical supplies and equipment to developing country hospitals in need, as well emergency aid in times of disaster.
The Dahans are not only longtime friends and benefactors of MediSend, but also invaluable mentors with an unwavering belief in MediSend’s educational and humanitarian work.
Thanks to the Dahan Family Foundation, MediSend made significant contributions to the Ebola crisis, supports women and children’s care in Liberia and Sierra Leone and, as a partner with the World Health Organization, is currently playing an important role in rebuilding Liberia’s healthcare infrastructure. MediSend has trained biomedical technicians for hospitals throughout Africa and has recently partnered with GE El Seif (Saudi Arabia) to train technicians for hospitals in the Middle East. With the Dahans’ ongoing support, MediSend is working with Jane Goodall to rebuild a hospital and deliver better health services in the area of Gombe National Park, Tanzania.

MediSend, Liberia’s Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization Partner to Help Rebuild Liberian Healthcare Infrastructure
Three Liberian biomedical technicians, sponsored by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, have graduated from the MediSend Biomedical Engineering Technology School and are returning home to Liberia as part of a healthcare reconstruction and strengthening plan following the devastating effects of the Ebola outbreak in 2014.
Thanks to Dr. Bernice T. Dahn, Liberia’s Minister of Health and a tireless advocate for healthcare improvement, Liberia is obtaining new medical equipment and skilled human resources. As part of a comprehensive national campaign, the technicians will play a major role in Liberia’s healthcare support system. They will not only install, repair and maintain modern, life-saving diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, but will act as mentors and trainers, expanding services by elevating intern skills.
“I am grateful to the MediSend Biomedical Engineering Technology School for their partnership in providing education and professional skills training to our new biomedical technicians. They will be very instrumental in rebuilding and strengthening Liberia’s healthcare system, through direct service and by implementation of our new ‘internship’ mentoring programs.
