Dallas, TX. (November 6, 2008) --- MediSend International has partnered with the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation to train the first qualified biomedical repair technicians for the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital and Research Center (BMMH) in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The BMMH was built by the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation and named in honor of Mutombo’s beloved mother, Biamba Marie Mutombo. Opened in December 2007, the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital is the first new hospital of its kind built in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the past 40 years.

“In developing countries, even basic biomedical equipment can mean the difference between life and death. Tragically, a lack of trained personnel means this life saving equipment can fall into disrepair or go unused,” said Nick Hallack, President and CEO of MediSend International, “Our program insures that the equipment at the hospital will be professionally installed, maintained and repaired."

MediSend International is the first global organization to offer a comprehensive solution to these problems with its innovative Biomedical Repair Training Program©, designed specifically to meet the worldwide need of skilled labor in developing hospital systems. The program, based on an intensive, outcome-oriented curriculum and interdisciplinary training model, returns qualified biomedical technicians home with professional skills to improve hospital conditions.

Two trainees from the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital (BMMH) and Research Center are currently participating in the MediSend Biomedical Repair Training Program. They will spend six months taking courses in the biomedical training program. When they return to the Democratic Republic of Congo, the two will be the only qualified biomedical repair technicians in the Kinshasa region.

MediSend's biomedical training laboratory and classrooms are located in the Elisabeth Dahan Humanitarian Center, MediSend's global headquarters in Dallas, Texas. MediSend's state-of-the-art biomedical training laboratory, sponsored by the ExxonMobil Foundation, offers trainees the opportunity of hands-on experience with a complete inventory of biomedical equipment in one of the US’s best equipped biomedical training laboratories.

The trainees will return to the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital and Research Center with MediSend’s Mobile Biomedical Test and Repair Kit ™, the largest and most comprehensive mobile unit of its kind. The Kit, developed and produced by MediSend, contains over 3,000 laboratory repair tools, supply items and state-of-the-art test and calibration equipment essential to the repair and maintenance of biomedical equipment. The patent pending Mobile Biomedical Equipment Test and Repair Kit is designed to withstand harsh conditions in developing countries such as temperature, humidity and unstable electrical power.

“I am very thankful for our partnership with MediSend and the training of our hospital staff in biomedical engineering. We look forward to a long-term relationship with MediSend that will expand to include practical nurse training on biomedical equipment, infectious disease control, and management technology. Our relationship with MediSend will mean that BMMH will be better able to serve the citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo and ultimately will improve overall healthcare conditions in the country”, said NBA All-Star Dikembe Mutombo.
