Corporate Community Unites to Fund MediSend International's Middle East Emergency Relief Campaign / ExxonMobil Foundation Provides Leadership Gift

09/16/2006

MediSend International issued a plea for donations of medical supplies and equipment, as well as funding to facilitate the shipping of life-saving medical relief to the Middle East. The result is MediSend's largest, single relief effort to-date. A leadership grant from the ExxonMobil Foundation, with additional funds from The Jean-Claude Saada Foundation and T-System, Inc. will enable MediSend to begin shipping 45-50 tons (eight ocean containers) of medical supplies and equipment valued at approximately $4 million. MediSend International's Middle East Relief Campaign is available to all countries in the region that qualify for emergency assistance and request support.

The ExxonMobil Foundation has provided the funds for five of the eight containers of medical relief. Each 40-foot container can provide aid to thousands of individuals in need of medical care. Three containers will be shipped to Lebanon immediately. MediSend is working with the United Nations / World Food Programme and USAID agents on transportation and distribution to and in Lebanon. Texas-based National Freight has provided all US transportation of supplies for the relief campaign.

"The ExxonMobil Foundation is pleased to support MediSend International in its humanitarian response to the health care needs arising from the current situation in the Middle East," said Mr. Kenneth P. Cohen, Chairman of the ExxonMobil Foundation. "This contribution complements the support we have given MediSend over the past several years to provide medical supplies and equipment in Africa, Latin America and for Tsunami relief in Indonesia."

Hospitals, manufacturers and distributors of health care products such as Duopross Meditech that donated three million sterile, retractable syringes, Tenet Healthcare Corp., and Henry Schein, Inc. have each contributed large quantities of medical supplies and equipment to the MediSend Middle East Emergency Relief Campaign.

"The generosity of the ExxonMobil Foundation has enabled MediSend to provide humanitarian support to people in need and to send hope and healing to communities around the world," said Nick Hallack, MediSend's President and CEO who added, "This is a tremendous undertaking requiring extraordinary commitment on the part of our donors and sponsors. Our gratitude goes out to each of them for the opportunity to complete this mission in the Middle East."

Dallas-based MediSend International is a humanitarian organization providing medical aid and education to people in need in developing countries worldwide. MediSend's global mission includes the distribution of medical supplies and equipment in long-term medical aid programs and emergency-disaster medical relief campaigns, as well as educational programs in biomedical equipment repair and health care management.
